MONTREAL, Canada — Notre-Dame Hospital officials say that security measures were sufficient for the needs of the psychiatry ward, despite two recent slayings and an attack on a patient.
Police arrested Idelson Guerrier, 31, a patient at the hospital, in connection to the attempted suffocation of a 71-year-old patient, CBC News reports. Authorities are also investigating a link between Guerrier and the deaths of two male patients with were killed earlier in June.
Guerrier has a lengthy criminal record, which has led critics to question the hospital’s security and diagnostic measures, the QMI Agency reports. His rap sheet includes convictions for armed assault and making death threats.
