WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center introduced a new security procedure after a two-year-old girl was attacked in her hospital bed in late March.
The new procedure requires staff members to immediately contact hospital security if they suspect child abuse, Fox 8 reports. Security will stay with the patient who is potentially being abused until the allegations are addressed. The hospital will contact a social worker, and then police.
The hospital saw more than 680 cases of child abuse last year, according to Dr. Meggan Goodpasture, leader of the child protection team.
On May 2, hospital officials reported a case of child abuse involving a 9-month-old. The infant’s mother was arrested last week.
