ALABASTER, Ala. — A woman was indicted by federal grand jury June 28 on counts of identity theft, possessing stolen mail in an attempt to commit bank fraud, misusing someone else’s Social Security number and aggravated identity theft.
Chelsea Catherine Stewart was arrested for violating the HIPAA Act and wrongfully obtaining health information from Trinity Medical Center, the Shelby County Reporter reports. If convicted of violating the HIPAA statute, Stewart faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The case is still under investigation by the Alabaster Police Department, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Secret Service.
