High School Shooting Leaves 2 Injured

A double shooting during the Feb. 12 homecoming basketball game at Central High School has caused school officials to double up on security for all remaining home games of the season.

Parrish Hayden, 18, was arrested Feb. 15 for allegedly shooting a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of wanton endangerment.

Days prior to the shooting, students informed Central’s principal, Dr. Dan Withers, about posts they had seen on Facebook saying there was going to be a fight between neighborhood gangs. Apparently, the high school was a central and neutral location, as neither group were students at Central. Additionally, the high school was hosting the game of the week.

Police refused to say whether or not the incident was gang related; however, they said neither victim was the intended target. Both were taken to a local hospital and were expected to recover from their injuries.
