An 85-year-old heart patient has been charged with first-degree assault for shooting a nursing supervisor at Danbury Hospital three times on March 2.
The incident occurred in the hospital’s cardiac unit. During his scuffle with nursing supervisor Andy Hull, Stanley Lupienski shot himself once in the leg, reports the Associated Press. Officials said Hull tried to disarm Lupienski when the suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at another staff member.
Hull was said to have serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A motive for the incident is uncertain, and it is unclear whether Hull or Lupienski knew each other. Police have said that the suspect may have psychiatric issues.
In addition to being charged with first-degree assault, Lupienski faces charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a weapon and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Lupienski’s bail is set for $250,000.
