A 46-year-old Saudi Arabian graduate student has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing a retired professor.
Richard T. Antoun, 77, was an anthropology professor at Binghamton University who specialized in Islamic and Middle Eastern studies. The suspect, Abdulsalam S. al-Zahrani, allegedly worked with the professor at the university through out the graduate program, reports The New York Times.
Antoun was fatally stabbed in his campus office on Dec. 4.
According to reports, Zahrani’s roommate notified university officials about the suspect’s erratic behaviors before the attack occurred. The roommate said Zahrani had become increasingly fearful. Additionally, he was complaining of financial problems and believed he was being persecuted for being Muslim.
Zahrani is being held without bail.
