Governor Salutes N.Y. Trooper's Bubbly Personality At Memorial

NEW YORK

New York Gov. David Paterson eulogized Jill Mattice during a memorial service on Tuesday for the first female New York trooper who died while on duty, several media outlets report.

Police say Mattice, 31, was driving a cruiser back to the barracks in Oneonta (upstate New York) from her shift at a central New York school on Wednesday when she apparently drifted into the oncoming lane and collided with a tractor-trailer. The accident is still being investigated.

Mattice was assigned as a school resource officer at the Unadilla Valley Central and Franklin School Districts.
