Freshmen Greek Pledges Will Face Suspension at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J.— Princeton University will suspend any freshman who joins, rushes or pledges to a Greek organization starting this fall.

The administration announced last year that it would ban first-year students from fraternities and sororities beginning in the fall of 2012, The Associated Press reports. The school already has a policy of not recognizing Greek organizations.

A committee was formed to decide how to enforce the new rule. Princeton President Shirley Tilghman adopted the committee report this week, which included the recommendation to practice leniency in cases where students are “extraordinarily forthcoming” about violating the rule.
