KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Early in the morning of Sept. 22, a 20-year-old University of Tennessee (UT) student who was pledging at a fraternity was admitted to a local medical center with a blood alcohol content of more than .4. Authorities believe he had become intoxicated by inserting wine via a rubber tube into his rectum.
When police officers further investigated, they found several other young men at the Pi Kappa Alpha house were passed out in their rooms with bags of wine strewn around the building. In light of these developments, UT officials immediately suspended the fraternity for 30 days pending the investigation’s outcome, reports WPTV.
On Monday, the fraternity was suspended indefinitely. It will not be allowed to exist on campus until at least 2015, reports the Washington Post.
It remains unclear whether or not a sexual assault occurred.
The incident has prompted the school’s vice chancellor for student life to put together a task force to review Greek life.
