Fraternity Suspended for Accidental Shooting at Party
CALIFORNIA, Pa. — The Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) chapter at California University of Pennsylvania has been placed on temporary suspension after a student was shot at the fraternity house during a party.
Dustin Fuller, 20, was in an upstairs bedroom at the fraternity house when he found a shotgun on Oct. 3. He picked it up without checking to see if the weapon was loaded. Fuller was pointing the gun downward when it went off and shot Raylnn Porco, 19, in her left side, reports PittsburghLive.com. Porco, a student at the college, was treated by a university nurse and released.
Fraternity members secured the weapon and placed it in a closet until officials arrived at the scene.
Officials at the university are investigating whether or not any risk management policies were violated by the fraternity. Once the investigation is completed, the university will determine what sanctions will be imposed on the organization.
Fuller, who is enrolled in the ROTC program at the university, was charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and underage purchase of alcohol. He was released on his own recognizance.
