Frat Faces Probation After Pledges Are Blindfolded, Covered in Food
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University placed the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity on a three-year probation after finding the fraternity guilty of hazing on Dec. 10. Police entered the Phi Sigma Kappa house on Nov. 14 and found pledges blindfolded and covered in food.
Members of the fraternity will be required to comply with 16 terms or Phi Sigma Kappa will face expulsion from campus, The Daily Athenaeum reports.
Ahmad Alashi, a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, was arrested following the Nov. 14 incident for slapping blindfolded pledges in the face. The University’s Student Conduct Board found Alashi innocent of hazing, but he faces a misdemeanor charge and possible fines or imprisonment.
Among other requirements, members will need a 2.0 cumulative GPA to remain in the fraternity. The current executive board will be disbanded, and a new one will be appointed by a Phi Sigma Kappa national representative and approved by the local alumni board and Student Organizations Services.
