VANCOUVER – A former associate professor at the University of British Columbia has been arrested for allegedly placing hidden cameras in a campus change room.
In April, police arrested Jim Rupert, an anti-doping expert and a professor in the school’s department of kinesiology, after staff members found hidden recording devices in a makeshift change room they had set up for participants in a study, CTV News reports.
University officials took immediate action and the professor left in June. However, students are now concerned that they are just now hearing about the incident.
Authorities claim that they didn’t release the information because Rupert’s arrest happened quickly, and there was no need to issue a warning to students or staff. Police maintain that none of the images taken with Rupert’s camera have been posted online.
Rupert has been charged with voyeurism.
