Former UM Student Who Threatened Campus Shooting Pleads Guilty

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A former University of Maryland student who allegedly threatened to carry out a campus shooting in March pleaded guilty Tuesday to misuse of telephone facilities and disturbing the peace.

The conditions of Alexander Song’s plea require him to complete 200 hours of community service and be subject to monitoring by the state’s Mental Health Court, College Park Patch reports. Song posted messages on social networking sites that said, “Hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news.”

The plea carries a sentence of up to three years in prison. A sentencing hearing for Song has not yet been scheduled.
