Former UCSF Employee Faces 25 Years for Abusing Coworkers Personal Info

SAN JOSE, Calif.—  A former University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center employee pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of misuse of a Social Security number for abusing the personal information of more than 380 coworkers.

Cam Giang admitted to using the birth dates and partial Social Security numbers of 382 of his colleagues from January to April in order to complete online health surveys. Giang received a $100 voucher for each of the completed surveys, according to the Examiner.

It is unclear how Giang was able to obtain his coworkers’ personal information. The two counts carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Giang will be sentenced on Oct. 29.
