EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A former Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville student was sentenced to five years in prison for writing a note that threatened a killing spree unless he was paid $50,000.
Olutosin Oduwole claimed the note was actually the lyrics to a rap song he had written, the Courthouse News Service reports. Oduwole was also sentenced 364 days and a $1,000 fine on a related conviction of storing a loaded pistol in his campus apartment. The sentences will be served concurrently.
After his sentencing, Oduwole also pleaded guilty to felony charges of theft and computer fraud for the online sale of a gun he did not have.
