Former Mountie Kills Ottawa Officer Outside Hospital

OTTAWA

An Ottawa police officer was ambushed and stabbed to death outside the emergency department of the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus on Dec. 29.

The suspect, Kevin Gregson, 43, is a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer, reports The Canadian Press. The victim, Eric Czapnik, was attacked while inside his cruiser working on an unrelated case. Czapnik died at the scene.

According to investigators, the attack was apparently random. The two paramedics and hospital personnel were able to apprehend the suspect, according to the news report.

Gregson was discharged from RCMP after threatening to kill a Mormon church bishop in 2006, according to a report by the Ottawa citizen.
