A former employee of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System was sentenced to five years in federal prison on Feb. 3 for stealing patient identities and bank fraud.
Thirty-year-old Nakeshia Brown worked as a patient care worker for five years, according to the Houston Chronicle. A written statement from U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson said that Brown admitted to stealing copies of patient medical records, which included information such as birth dates, Social Security numbers and other identifying information.
With the stolen information, Brown applied for credit cards.
The United States Secret Service investigated the case.
