BETTENDORF, Iowa — Police apprehended an escaped forensic patient after he crashed a stolen vehicle during a police pursuit. Anthony Koehlhoeffer, 20, was being held in Jefferson County jail on a bank robbery charge, but was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics on Dec. 14 for treatment.

Koehlhoeffer escaped the hospital during his treatment and stole a vehicle. Around 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 15, he was spotted in a hospital gown and flip flops committing another carjacking outside of a convenience store, the Des Moines Register reports. After allegedly crashing that vehicle, Koehlhoeffer fled on foot.

Several hours later, a woman reported that she had been carjacked by a man who forced her to drive to Davenport. The carjacker – who was possibly Koehlhoeffer – left the woman unharmed in her vehicle and stole yet another vehicle, which he crashed in Bettendorf. Police captured him after he tried to escape from the flipped vehicle.
