Eastern Michigan U. Adds More Officers to Campus Police Department

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University (EMU) plans to hire four police officers to patrol an off-campus area where two students were killed in the past year.

The full-time officers will join 33 sworn officers at the university and will begin their patrols in mid-January, MLive.com reports.

The announcement comes weeks after university officials said they were building a plan to improve public safety for students. A rash of off-campus crime, including the murder of EMU footballer Demarius Reed, prompted the university to boost its security.
