E-mail Scam Targets College Scholars

WASHINGTON — The American Historical Association (AHA) Professional Division has issued a warning urging scholars to be aware of suspicious E-mails targeting students in a variety of disciplines.

The message contains an offer by an alleged scholarly journal to publish a conference essay. Once respondents submit a paper for peer review, they learn that they will be charged a service charge that can cost many hundreds of dollars, AHA Today reports.

The solicitations come from editors of journals that do not exist. Additionally, the initial E-mail contains grammatical errors and unprofessional language.
