PORTLAND, Ore. – Two people attempting to help a patient escape from the psychiatric facility at Oregon State Hospital were arrested Oct. 25.
Fifty-year-old Monica Holbert and 29-year-old Thomas E. Boring drove a stolen vehicle containing methamphetamine. Staff at the hospital became suspicious of the pair when they saw the car enter the parking lot with Washington license plates. Interim Hospital Superintendent Maynard Hammer said a person got out of the car, looked at the security fence behind the maximum-security wards, and then the car left.
At 10 p.m., the car returned and the two suspects began to tamper with a security fence. Employees of the hospital found the duo and immediately called the police. The suspects were arrested by Oregon State Police. They were taken to Marion County jail.
Holbert faces charges of conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit escape. Boring is also charged with conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit escape. Additionally, he is charged with possession of methamphetamine. While searching the vehicle, a 1994 Ford Explorer stolen from Vancouver, Wash., police found the drug.
Officials said that the connection between the suspects and the patient they were attempting to help escape is unclear. The patient, however, does have a history of escape attempts.
