PHILADELPHIA — A Drexel University police officer shot and wounded a man who allegedly punched the officer in the face and tried to grab his service weapon.
The officer was escorting a university employee to her car after the employee said she had been harassed by a stranger, The Inquirer reports. The alleged harasser approached them and immediately punched the officer in the face and tried to grab the service weapon when the officer attempted to question him, according to Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives, whose unit is investigating.
When the man tried to grab the officer’s gun a second time, the officer opened fire. Police believe the suspect, who was hospitalized in stable condition, may have been under the influence of narcotics.
