STERLING, Colo. — RE-1 Valley School District has received a $7,000 School Safety and Substance Abuse Prevention grant, which it will use to train its key staff and community members to identify students at risk of suicide.
The district will also use the grant to facilitate school and community-based interventions, to train students to prevent suicide and support the development of a more comprehensive threat assessment protocol, the Journal-Advocate reports.
The district will provide Question, persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training for all staff. A group of 15 to 20 people will receive more in-depth Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
