CONWAY, S.C. – The Horry County School District is implementing a 24-hour hotline to promote better school security. Students will be able to call the hotline to report problems on campus.
The establishment of the hotline follows several recent threats of violence and an incident of gunfire at Socastee High School in Sept., reports WMBF News.
Administrators say that grants will cover the $4,000 per year needed to run the hotline. Additionally, they hope to introduce training to help students cope with bullying.
Executive Director of Student Affairs James Bradley told WMBF News that despite the district’s tight budget, it will make the sacrifices necessary to provide safety programs to students. He stressed that once security concerns were properly addressed, the district could better focus on academic needs.
