The U.S. Department of Education announced on Friday that postsecondary institutions now have more time to prepare their Annual Security Reports (ASRs) and Annual Fire Safety Reports (AFSRs). Both reports now must be distributed by December 31, 2020.
Normally, the ASR and AFSR must be distributed by October 1. However, because institutions of higher education and their students are facing significant challenges due to COVID-19, the Department extended the deadline.
That being said, the Department encouraged colleges and universities to distribute their ASRs and AFRs on the normal schedule, if possible.
At last week’s Campus Safety Online Summit, Sarah Barrett, who is director of training and education at the Clery Center, as well as Abigail Boyer, who is the Clery Center’s associate executive director, presented Accounting for the ‘Other’: Examing Clery Act Emergency Notification Policies in Light of COVID-19 Response. In this presentation, Barrett and Boyer explored key questions that colleges and universities continue to face in response to the coronavirus and how they inform an institution’s Clery-required emergency notification and evacuation policies.
This session, as well as many others that cover campus COVID-19 response, are now available on demand. To watch the sessions, click here.
