COVID-19 Patient Escapes Connecticut Hospital

A patient who was held under quarantine and being treated for the coronavirus fled Yale New Haven Hospital on Sunday morning.

The 55-year-old homeless male, who had tested positive for COVID-19, left on foot, reports the New Haven Independent.

Police Chief Otoniel Reyes announced the patient escape nearly six hours later in a daily press remote videoconference. Although Reyes announced that the patient had been apprehended, the person in custody was the wrong guy, and the patient in question remained at large.

However, a couple of hours later authorities were able to locate the missing man. He is now back in custody at the hospital.

The city of Milford, Connecticut is converting Hill Regional High School into a 75-bed treatment facility for homeless individuals who have tested positive for the coronavirus but don’t require hospitalization, reports the newspaper. Police will guard the facility so the patients can’t escape.
