Hartford, Connecticut – Simsbury Public Schools Superintendent Matt Curtis announced on Friday that a Simsbury High School security guard has died due to complications from the coronavirus.
Pedro “Peter” Gonzalez worked for U.S. Allied Security and was the primary security officer during after-school activities, reports NBC Connecticut.
“As Superintendent, I was impressed by Peter’s constantly positive attitude and the personal greeting he had for everyone who crossed his path,” said Curtis. “He was a great representative of our school community as someone who worked hard, took his job seriously, and cared about making connections.”
Gonzalez exhibited minor symptoms in mid-September before testing positive, reports Fox61. Over the past few weeks he was treated at two area hospitals.
When Gonzalez was diagnosed, it was determined there wasn’t concern for additional spread of COVID-19. No one else in the school community has tested positive for the virus since his diagnosis.
He is survived by his wife, two adult children and a granddaughter. Counselors are available for students and staff at the high school.
