Colorado Lawmakers Consider Arming Teachers
DENVER — Lawmakers in Colorado are considering a bill that would allow the state’s school districts to permit adults to carry guns inside classrooms.
On Feb. 11, a House committee will hear testimony on a measure sponsored by Rep. Steve Humphrey. If approved, the bill would authorize a school board to adopt written policy that permits employees to carry concealed weapons on school grounds as long as they have a valid permit, the Denver Post reports.
A Quinniapiac University poll revealed that 50 percent of Coloradans support allowing armed teachers in schools, while 45 percent oppose the measure. Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg is among those who do not support arming teachers.
