Colo. Student Commits Suicide in High School Parking Lot

The student reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A teen committed suicide in a Colorado high school’s parking lot Wednesday afternoon.

Jose T. Bueno, who’s been identified with his family’s permission, was found dead in the parking lot of Grand Junction High School, according to nbc11news.com.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office announced Bueno, 17, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency crews immediately responded after the discovery and police closed off the area. Students were later escorted to their cars or told to get picked up by parents and all after school activities were cancelled.

The Grand Junction Fire Department posted this message at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday shortly after authorities were called to the scene:

“An isolated shooting occurred at GJHS. This is not an active shooter incident. This is an isolated tragedy. Students are being released from the school. An active investigation is underway. Additional information will be provided by the GJPD.”

Classes resumed Thursday, but psychologists and counselors were made available to students and staff and counseling will continue to be offered by the school as long as needed.
