Top Concerns
There has been a noticeable shift in top concerns in the past four years. Wherea
s less than a third of respondents in 2011 indicated Clery compliance was a top concern, now nearly half (47%) of university respondents say this is one of their top issues. Campus Safety magazine speculates that this is the result of the U.S. Department of Education’s focus on Clery and Title IX compliance.
There has been a 10-point drop in the percentage of respondents who say emergency preparedness is a top concern. Today, 45% of respondents say this is one of their primary issues, compared to 55% in 2011. Fewer respondents today say staffing levels is one of their top five concerns. That said, a significant majority of university survey respondents still say their departments don’t have enough employees/officers.
There is a slight uptick in concern for the following issues video surveillance (up by three points to 27%), officer/staff training (up three points to 18%), officer morale (up four points to 16%) and campus constituent mental health (up four points to 15%).
