TUCSON, Ariz. — Campus police at Pima Community College were planning to distribute photographs of Jared Loughner to night officers and other staff members in the week leading up to the shooting that killed six people. Authorities were concerned that Loughner, who had demonstrated erratic and inappropriate behavior while enrolled at the college, would return to campus.
In a series of E-mails sent on Dec. 28, Manny Amado, a college police commander, asked that more frequent patrols of Northwest Campus be conducted, USA Today reports. The request was in response to a number of YouTube videos posted by Loughner.
Sgt. Dan Simmons sent his colleagues an E-mail on Dec. 23 saying that one of his officers had discovered several YouTube videos posted by Loughner but that there was little they could do about it. One of the videos had been filmed on campus.
Loughner was suspended from the college on Sept. 29 and there is no evidence to suggest he attempted to return to campus. He was suspended after he posted a YouTube video claiming that students were being tortured at the college.
