RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Technical Community College will establish a campus police department in July, following two gun incidents in the past academic year.
The college plans to hire a police chief and gradually expand to 14 sworn officers, the News Observer reports. Officials hope the department will prevent crime and improve emergency response.
The campus has been locked down twice in the past six months. In one incident, police believed a man was on campus with a gun as part of a domestic dispute. In another incident, a man wearing camouflage was seen holding a rifle in the vicinity.
