Some Quebec Hospitals Experience Rash of Patient Security Issues

MONTREAL — A 50-year-old patient jumped to his death at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital on Sunday, prompting an internal investigation by the hospital.

The man, who was transferred from Louis-H Lafontaine Psychiatric Hospital on Friday, died of his injuries hours after leaping from a ninth-floor window in a visitors’ lounge, The Montreal Gazette reports. The incident follows another psychiatric patient’s attempted murder of 71-year-old woman Notre Dame Hospital and the suicide of a St. Mary’s Hospital patient.

Critics have questioned why a patient who was transferred from a psychiatric hospital had access to a floor with windows that were able to open.
