A March 13 shooting outside of Duke Hospital involving two Duke University officers resulted in a man’s death.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. when university police officers Larry Carter and Jeffrey Liberto got into an altercation with a Aaron Dorsey, 25, outside of the hospital’s main entrance, reports WRAL.com. University police said patient care was not interrupted during the incident, and the main entrance was reopened seven hours after the shooting.
Carter and Liberto were responding to a report of a suspicious person in front of the hospital when the incident occurred, reports ncwanted.com. Authorities said Dorsey attacked the officers and tried to gain control of one of the officer’s guns.Both officers are on paid leave. It is not clear whether one or both officers fired their weapons.
Officials said Dorsey was not an employee, patient or relative of a patient.
The State Bureau of Investigation currently is reviewing the case.
