California Campuses Prepare for Thursday Protests

SACRAMENTO

California state academic institutions are bracing for a massive state-wide demonstration on March 4 by students, faculty, staff and parents. The strike, which will involve University of California, Cal State, Community College and K-12 campuses, will protest the state’s public education budget cuts, according to event organizers.

Some supporters of the event are urging participants to protest in a peaceful manner. The California Faculty Association (CFA) – SFSU Chapter adopted a statement of non-violence,according to Take a Stand for California Public Education.

During a Feb. 25 party at the University of California at Berkeley, aimed to rally support for the protest, attendees became violent; however, students, faculty and organizers of the protest have condemned the violent behavior.
