WASHINGTON, D.C. — A California law that banned the sale or rental of violent video games to minors was struck down by the Supreme Court on June 27. The court said the law would violate free-speech rights.
The law also imposed strict video game labeling requirements, Reuters reports. It was deemed unconstitutional by a 7-2 vote.
The law, which was adopted in 2005, has never taken effect due to the legal challenge. Six other states have had similar laws struck down in court.
