SANTA MARIA, Calif. — A Santa Maria Bonita School District (SMBSD) board member has filed a complaint, citing that the district has failed to comply with the Williams Act that requires schools to be clean, safe and maintained in good condition.
In his complaint, board member Will Smith states that because newly constructed buildings in schools such as El Camino Junior High and Liberty and Sanchez Elementary have not been certified, they pose a threat to students and staff, KCOY.com reports.
A representative for the district says Smith’s complaint does not fall under Williams Act guidelines. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that the Santa Barbara County Board of Education has sided with SMBSD.
