SALINAS, Calif. – Linda Rascon Williams was struck and killed Wednesday in a hit-and-run accident as she was attempting to return a backpack to a patient who had left it at the hospital.
Williams, 24, was a First Alarm Security officer who worked at the Natividad Medical Center. Cynthia Lane, 57, was the patient, and she was also killed in the accident.
The incident occurred as Lane, who had just been released from the hospital, was attempting to flag down a ride at a nearby intersection, reports the TheCalifornian.com. As Lane attempted to open the door of an SUV, the vehicle sped off. Williams then attempted to assist Lane when both were struck by a car, which fled the scene.
Authorities believe Francisco Miranda Jr., 23, was the driver of the vehicle that killed both women. He has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
