Boston Bombing Suspects Are College Students

BOSTON – Police say two brothers who were born in the Russian region near Chechnya are the prime suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing. One was killed early Friday morning in a shootout with police while the other one is on the run and considered armed and dangerous.

The younger brother who remains on the run, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, is enrolled at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and lives on the third floor of Pine Dale dormitory. The older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was an engineering student at Bunker Hill Community College, reports USA Today. UMass is closed and is being evacuated.

Additionally, most other college campuses in the Boston area have closed during the manhunt, reports the Boston Globe. Regis College, Mass Bay Community College, and Wellesley College have all closed their doors. MIT, Harvard, Brandeis, BU, BC, Boston Conservatory, Bentley, Suffolk, Northeastern, Simmons, Berklee, Wheelock, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Tufts, Emmanuel, and Emerson have canceled classes today.

Dzhokhar has been in the United States since he was in middle school and was quite popular with classmates, reports NPR.

Both brothers were identified in surveillance video taken at the scene of Monday’s explosions shortly before the bombs went off.
