Bill Would Give Campus Police Same Authority as Local Officers

INDIANA — A recent bill introduced in the Indiana General Assembly would give college and university campus police officers the same authority as city and county officers.

Currently, campus officers cannot stop impaired drivers off campus or loan resources, such as drug-sniffing dogs, to local police, the Associated Press reports. Their authority is restricted to their respective schools. 

The bill and a similar piece of legislation were scheduled to receive a hearing Feb. 8
