TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University’s campus police chief suggested the suspension of the band three days before the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion, according to a document released by the school.
In a meeting with campus administrators, University Police Chief Calvin Ross recommended that the entire band be suspended or that all upperclassmen be suspended because of hazing, CBS News reports. Band director Julian White, who was also at the meeting, said he didn’t think the band should be suspended, but that scholarships could be withdrawn from students found to be involved in hazing.
After the meeting, Dean of Students Henry Kirby and Ross addressed the band. The document, which consists of notes taken by Kirby during the meeting, indicates that Kirby used strong language when addressing the students.
