Automated System Will Alert Parents to School Snow Days

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools’ new alert system will provide an automated phone call to parents if school is canceled, closes early or classes are delayed due to weather conditions.

The Immediate Response Information System (IRIS) will call the phone numbers that parents listed with the school when they enrolled their children in classes, the Lexington Herald-Leader reports. District spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said the system could be used to disseminate other non-emergency information.

The district will continue to post closings on its Twitter and Facebook pages, Web site and cable TV network.
