Investigators are working to determine what happened when a traffic stop ended in the death of an unarmed man July 19.
University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing shot Sam Dubose in the head following a traffic stop. Dubose was stopped by Tensing for not having a front license plate, according to fox19.com.
Officials have not released much information on the incident, except that Dubose, 43, was unable to produce a driver’s license and had a bottle of alcohol in the car at the time he was pulled over. Dubose was asked to get out of his car and refused, at some point knocking Tensing to the ground. Tensing then shot Dubose, killing him. Tensing, who was knocked down at one point, was treated for minor injuries.
Cincinnati police Investigators have not determined why Tensing discharged his weapon, and he has been placed on administrative leave. He received an overall satisfactory rating on his annual performance evaluation this April and was complimented for his handling of traffic violations and his ability to maintain control of his weapon, reports WHIO.
