The owner and two managers of four schools in the Los Angeles area were arrested Wednesday after being charged with running an immigration scheme.
Federal officials allege the three men helped hundreds of foreign nationals remain in the U.S. by exploiting the student visa program, according to the Pasadena Star-News. The schools involved are Likie Fashion and Technology College in Alhambra, Prodee University/Neo American Language School in Los Angeles; Walter Jay M.D. Institute, and Educational Center in Los Angeles; and the American College of Forensic Studies in Los Angeles.
The schools were authorized to issue a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status, and each enrolled student paid up to $1,800 tuition for six months of enrollment. But Homeland Security investigation officials found almost none of the students attended classes or even lived near the schools.
The schools’ owner, 51-year-old Hee Sun Shim, has been indicted with managers Hyung Cham Moon, 39, and Eun Young Choi, 35.
