SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Four University of Notre Dame students were robbed at gun point Sunday, prompting the university to place plainclothes officers on the streets around campus.
A student was robbed at gunpoint as she got out of her car with her dog, ABC 57 News reports. The gunman threated to shoot her dog unless she could get it under control. Around the same time, three other females were robbed at gunpoint as they walked together near campus.
The incidents sparked the decision to bring in plainclothes officers in to patrol around campus. Each year as the new school year begins, the campus experiences a crime spike, according to Lt. Dan Skibins of the South Bend Street Crimes Unit.
