TEMPE, Ariz. — Twenty-five Kyrene School District campuses are in the process of receiving security upgrades, thanks to a $117 million bond issue approved by voters in 2005.
Most recently, security at Waggoner Elementary was upgraded to include access control on each of its buildings through the use of coded ID badges, Wrangler News reports. Doors that used to lead to open areas or the school parking lot will now open into hallways feeding into the school’s interior.
One school, Sureño, which was among the first to receive an upgrade, has security cameras that can be remotely viewed by the district’s security team.
