DENVER, Colo. — The timeline of events before and during the Dec. 13 shooting at a high school in suburban Denver have been released by police.
The alleged shooter, 18-year-old Karl Pierson, went bowling shortly before going to school and attempting to gun down a teacher, reports NBC News. Authorities believe he acted alone.
The news source then outlines Pierson’s actions that followed:
- He purchased more ammunition
- He arrived at campus and entered through a door that was ajar but was supposed to be locked. Pierson was carrying a shotgun, machete, ammo and three Molotov cocktails
- The suspect fired one round into the hallway and then fatally shot 17-year-old Claire Esther Davis. He then fired another shot near his intended target, a teacher with whom he had a grudge
- Pierson then lit one of his Molotov cocktails in the library, staring a fire
- He then fatally shot himself in the head
While all of this was going on, campus personnel were quickly locking down the school. An SRO and security officer also ran toward the gunfire. Both the lockdown and officer actions were praised by the local sheriff as having possibly prevented further bloodshed.
