The Ann Arbor Public School Board unanimously voted to ban guns on their campuses April 15.
The vote came as the board met to discuss safety policies, and the board released a statement saying the new rule was instated to protect students and employees, according to clickondetroit.com.
Emergency procedures will take effect if any dangerous weapons are seen to be on school grounds, although the policy does not apply to law enforcement officers.
The policy is effective immediately. Presently, Michigan’s laws allow citizens with a concealed carry permit to bring a gun on school grounds.
