Amid Bullying Concerns, Idaho College Trying to Ban Yik Yak App

The College of Idaho is trying to ban the use of the Yik Yak app on campus to decrease cyber bullying.

The Yik Yak app has been banned at other schools because of student's ability to anonymously bully people on it.

A student government group at the College of Idaho passed a resolution to ban the use of the app Yik Yak on campus.

The app, which lets users anonymously post content in a chat based on the location of users, has been used to criticize students and faculty, according to college officials. The school sent a formal request to Yik Yak to disable the app on campus but has not yet received a reply, according to the Idaho Statesmen. The app’s website says the company can disable the app in certain locations “if you ask nicely.”

The student Senate passed the resolution during the spring semester after the college received seven reports from students who felt personally threatened.
