TAMPA, Fla. – The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) came out strongly against a proposal to place an armed school resource officer (SRO) in every elementary school in Hillsborough County.
The organization claims the proposal, which is being considered by the school board, could contribute to discrimination against minorities, reports the Tampa Bay Times. It also claims the SROs will not deter shooters.
The proposal for SROs, however, is being strongly supported by elementary school principals.
